New York Travel
I recently saw an article in a blog and I’ve decided to share it with you that have the same passion as me.
“7 Tips To Do New York On A Budget
New York City in general and Manhattan in particular has a reputation for being an expensive place to visit, and it is if you want it to be. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Earlier this week, for example, I spent two days in the Big Apple and spent less than $50 total for food and entertainment. Here are some tips to do New York on a budget.
1. Check local publications for days when local museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History, Museum of Modern Art, etc have free or reduced-rate fares. Posted “suggested donation” signs mean just that: it’s the suggested donation. You are free to donate as much or as little as you like, or nothing at all. That said, please try to donate at least something. These places aren’t cheap to keep open.
2. Consider purchasing a New York Pass if you plan on visiting more than two or three of the popular tourist attractions such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Guggenheim Museum, etc during your trip. One-day passes start as low as $69.00 and contain over $600 worth of entry coupons, though of course you’d be hard-pressed to use them all in just one day. Luckily, 7-day passes go for just $135, a real bargain, and children’s passes are even cheaper. The New York Pass can easily pay for itself after just four or five uses depending on what you’re most interested in doing.
3. Walk. Manhattan from Central Park all the way south to the financial district and battery is imminently walkable and covers less distance than you probably think. Save on subway trips ($2 one-way) by planning your day’s activities ahead of time and then do them in geographical order from north to south (or vice versa). Not only will you save money, you’ll get plenty of exercise to help burn off all those delicious street snacks you’ll be eating along the way. Besides, New York is a city that must be experienced on the ground to be truly appreciated. You’ll miss most of what the city has to offer if you’re busy hopping from site to site via taxi or subway the entire time. Take a stroll. Do some window shopping along the way. Take in the sights. Getting there is half the fun.
4. Since most of you will probably have to ride the subway anyway despite all the walking you’ll be doing, it might pay to purchase a multi-day pass. Passes come in 1, 7, 14, and 30 day periods and allow for unlimited subway and bus trips until expiration. If you ride a lot (maybe the weather isn’t conducive to walking), you could save a significant amount of money buying your trips in bulk.
5. People watch in Times Square or Rockefeller Center. Most of the people you’ll see in these areas are probably tourists from all over the world. New York is home to an astonishing variety of people from every nation or culture you could think of. You could spend hours taking it all in. If you’re lucky, you might even see a naked cowboy.
6. Picnic in Central Park. Pick up some cheap sandwich ingredients and head to Central Park where you can sit in the sun, people watch, and maybe even rent a row boat or two.
7. Go to the site of the former World Trade Center. While the lot itself is currently under development for the new Freedom Tower, the city has erected a moving tribute to those who died on 9/11 near the Port Authority Terminal. It’s free and is a must-see for every American.”

Unemployment
Being unemployed is really getting me down from day to day. Although I have my inscription in the job center they don’t have many offers for all unemployed people. Last week I was called to the unemployed office to have a workshop, with several other people with a license degree, on how to search jobs online, mainly in the EURES Portal. We also focused other things like “a good posture in a job interview” but the core issue of the workshop was to motivate us to search European and Worldwide jobs. It’s no use to say that, although I knew the Eures Portal already, when I got home I went to the net to search job related sites worldwide and I found an one with several interesting articles for those unemployed looking for a new job. They have articles with tips to maximize a job search, they have job board blogs in their links, articles to help professionals taking more advantages on their careers and they even show the unemployment rate and other statistics on their site. For those who might need the site name is Employment Metrix. It’s good to have access to this information in order to gain some motivation to keep searching for a job that suits us. It’s a shame that the unemployment office is not doing this as often as it should but they deserve a credit for starting with this kind of workshops.

Halloween
At first, why is called Halloween? November 1 is “All Saints' Day (Hallowmas)”. So, October 31 is the eve of that day=All Hallow Eve. Then it is called Halloween. Originally, this festival is a religion behavior of Celtic about 2,000 years ago. People believed that people who died come to life in this day.
Speaking of Halloween, Dressing up, Trick or Treat, Pumpkin!!! First is dressing up. Ancient people believed that dead people come back to life. So they get children to dress up and intend to drive off them. Second is “Trick or Treat”. People prepared treat as an offering to calm down ghosts. However, children wanted to get treat. So they began to say this word as a trick. Last is pumpkin. People make Jack-o-Lantern. It is the lantern of pumpkin. This is also for driving off ghosts.
Now, Halloween party is held all over the world. Children and adults enjoy this festival. In Portugal, this is starting to be a custom, and is already celebrated in many night places like bars and clubs.
But the Portuguese tradition is also kept. Children do not go to play trick or treat but they go ask for some traditional Portuguese cake called “merendeira” or some sweats and chocolates. The “merendeira” is a tipical little cake made especially from this time on until Christmas.

Resources for English Teachers
Has I told before, this year I’m not going to teach kids. Presently I’m preparing a Spanish and a English course but for adults. But as I know that sometimes it’s hard to find resources that can help us with material to prepare our classes and to make exercises I’ve decided to put here some I considered very useful when I needed. Hope It can help Kids teachers out there. Besides Halloween is coming and I think you can find in some sites lots of funny and interesting activities about the day.
ABC Teach

Boggles World ESL
Using English
English Adventure
English 4 Kids
Lucy Learns DLTK – Kids
Those are just a few that I used a lot. I’ll try to put some more the next time and hope it can be useful for some of you.

Earn Money in the Internet
Start earning money to surf using our Surf Junky browser. Your statistics are updated in real time and you get paid every month!
Surf Junky: a very new revolution and super-competitive compared to other similar sites. The time you spend on the internet is paid you 0.50 U.S. dollars per hour. You just need to have an open window (which do not bother at all) and visit and click once an hour. Try to think about on how many hours you spend on the net a year and multiply by 0.5$...
It’s not much but it’s a help. In three days I made 7.5$, and most of the time I spend those 3 days without having paid post.
Give it a try!

Need help with your website design?
Recently I found a great website that teaches us all we need to know. For those of you who are beginners I advise you to visit the site how.todesignyour.com. The greatest thing about this site is that they do not only teach you, they show you all that you need to know about it, they have the most comprehensive video tutorial to show people how to built a web site. And you know what people say: “the best way to learn is by example”. I totally agree with them.
I wish I could have found it when I first started with my blog. They are exactly what I was looking for.

Favorite Great American Seafood Recipe
At home we make it often because Angel is even more passionate with shrimps then me, and seafood is one of the best sources of protein, it’s very good for our health. Angel makes excellent fried prawns and shrimps with garlic. He cooks seafood better than me but sometimes I like to show him that I can also make good shrimps. For that reason now and then I found myself searching for recipe sites and I found a great cook off site with some excellent recipes. If you like seafood I advise you to visit the site, http://www.greatamericanseafoodcookoff.com/.
Besides having the recipes there you can download them and furthermore they are having a contest where you can vote for which one you like the best and maybe you can win a trip to New Orleans.
And my vote goes too:
Shrimp and Andouille Cassoulet by Chef Brian Landry, Louisiana
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound andouille sausage, cut into ¼ inch pieces, (other smoked sausage or bacon can be substituted)
1 each sweet onion, diced
4 each celery stalks, diced
4 each garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons plus
1 teaspoon creole seasoning separated
1 teaspoon dry oregano
5 each whole peeled canned roma tomatoes (approx. 1 - 15 oz can)
5 each whole peeled fresh roma tomatoes
3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
4 - 15 oz cans white kidney/cannellini beans (other white beans can be substituted)
2 bottles Michelob Amber beer
4 pounds fresh Louisiana head-on shrimp,
6-20 count
2 teaspoons fresh thyme
1 bunch green onions, chopped
3 cups breadcrumbs, panko if possible
1 ½ cups ground parmesan
3 tablespoons olive oilSalt and pepper, to taste
Peel and de-vein the shrimp. Season with 2 tablespoons of Creole seasoning. Place the shrimp shells in 1.5 quart saucepan with the chicken broth and place over medium heat. Allow to simmer.
In a large skillet or small Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the andouille and allow to brown. Next add the onion, celery, garlic, Creole seasoning and oregano and cook until the vegetables are tender and translucent. Next, crush the tomatoes over the skillet and add the Worcestershire. Rinse the beans under cold water, and add to the skillet. Next, add the thyme and green onions. Strain the shells from the broth and add the broth to the skillet. Allow the beans and sausage to simmer for 15-20 minutes. (While the beans are simmering mix the breadcrumbs, parmesan, olive oil, salt and pepper.) Add the shrimp and allow to cook for 8-10 minutes. Cover the skillet with the breadcrumb mixture, and place under broiler for 2-3 minutes until the breadcrumbs are brown.
After reading the recipe I’ve decided that I really want to try it. In the picture it looks great and the description almost made me feel the taste of it.
My only problem with following recipes is that sometimes it’s hard to find all the proper ingredients in Portugal, like the Worcestershire sauce or the andouille sausage but I tend to choose other ones that I think might be similar. I sure give it a try and hope that Angel likes it too.
If you are a seafood fan like me you can simply go to http://www.greatamericanseafoodcookoff.com/ site and choose the recipe that suits you the best and vote for your favorite recipe so you can have the chance win a trip to New Orleans. It’s as easy as that!

Autumn is almost here
We are still in the beginning of September but the weather already tastes to Autumn!
The morning and evening temperatures are dropping a lot, almost like in winter time, the rain is threatening to fall and the days are a lot shorter… climate is changing and with it changes the mood of people.
I like autumn maybe because it’s the beginning of a new season, new clothes, new things to do, but although I like it I know that sometimes my mood is going down. Like with so many other people the mood it’s a reflect of the weather, if it is grey we are sadder, if it is bright we are cheerful. But I must confess that the greatest about it are those days when the sun almost looks like fire and the golden red leaves all over the trees, mixed with the brown orange all over the still green grass floor with a blue sky background… it’s a great and beautiful image.
Let the autumn begin and let’s hope that it can bring us a lot of new things.

Back to work
I also have little time to do so. At home I have lots of things to do, no time to be in the net. I use some dead hours I have at work in order to read the blogs I like and also write a post or two.
I want to dedicate more of my time writing in my blogs and I’ve been trying to create a new one in word press but I haven’t manage to understand quite well how it works, for that reason I’ve been struggling to find out information on it. If any of you know any site with information on that I can use some help.
I’ll keep this one and I’ll have the new one as well (really hope I have the time for both). As soon as I have it with a better look I’ll post the address here.

Summer Time
How to live better? It seems difficult, but not quite. What is not in our hands to change, it’s automatically solved. We only need to change what’s in our hands.
Ex.: why losing time and bother thinking: if I knew....... But I did not know, therefore, how can I use that experience from now on? That's it.
Think: what might happen next year?
Summer brings good feelings and positive actions like: “I's time again to think about renewing the house” – you don't have to spend much money, sometimes you just to change the furniture or substitute some bibelots and put others in a drawer. I need to have a new look and change my hair” - one day you finally decide to do it once for all. Small things will make all difference and give you joy and happiness.
AND STOP! Spend, at least, 10 minutes of your day thinking about good things in life.Walk outdoors. If you live by the sea, walk over there and listen the sound of waves. There is nothing more relaxing than, by the end of a working day, going to see the sun almost setting and listening the sound of waves. It’s summer time, it’s time to be by the see.
That's it. STOP - CHANGE - WALK – THINK ABOUT YOU – FEEL – IT’S SUMMER TIME

Last Minute Vacation
Uncheck all meetings the next day and be alert to deals of last-minute trips and exclusive. You may have to make the bags to take the last seats on a flight to the Red Sea, diving in the Caribbean or even depart to Brazil.
The trip in Europe that are bought almost the same day are cheaper! Offered by travel agents, this is a kind of package tour that has generally lower price when purchased a few days before the flight, with the goal of reducing the number of empty seats on the plane.
You just need to check on a last minute agency. The difference is that in those places you have to board in less than 48 hours, see:
How about doing an escape of one week in paradisiacal beach of Pipa in northeastern Brazil by ... 400 euro? Or go to Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic on an "all inclusive" at a price at around 600 euros? Yes, it is possible. But only for those being attentive to the shop windows of travel agents and is willing to leave on vacation the following day. The "last minute" is a modality that is permanently installed in the market and that tour operators make frequently
Unfortunately these two sites I mentioned are not in Portuguese and do not have any Portuguese airport as a departure city so us Portuguese Travelers still have to rely on travel agencies, all of them have last minute offers but few of them with internet based buy.

Pasteis de Nata - Portuguese Cream Cake
Great Portuguese speciality - you slhould try
In 1837, in Belém (a place by the tagus river in Lisbon) , near the Jerónimos Monastery (a Portuguese famous monastery), in an attempt to subsistence, the clergy of the monastery put some cake cream for sale in a pastry.
At that time, the area of Belém was far from the city, and its access was provided by the steam boats. The presence of Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belem attracted many tourists that quickly get used to “pasteis de belém” the traditional Portuguese cream cake.
The recipe was passed exclusively to known pastry masters who produced them in secrecy, and it remains like that until present day.
Despite being a Portuguese sweet, cream cake is also quite common in Brazil, with a sweet marketed by the network of fast-food Habib's, and they could be found in many bakeries and pastries in some parts of the country, especially in the city of Pelotas, well known for its sweet of Portuguese origin.
The pastels of Belém represented Portugal in the initiative of cultural Coffee Europe, the Day of Europe in 2006 during the Austrian presidency of the European Union.

WallPaper
Since the beginning my idea was to have there some walls with wallpaper. The room I really wanted was my bedroom. I have a dark red wall and I have another wall by the entrance I would like to use black wall paper with glittering. I saw it once in a decoration store but I didn’t see how much it was because, by then, I still haven’t any ideas for my decoration. I’ve been searching in the net and I found that similar wall paper but without the glitter are really expensive, So I can’t imagine how much the one I want is. By now a guess I have to postpone my will for a couple of months more. It’s not easy to save money for the decoration while we have all house expenses plus mortgage to pay.

Tunisia
I started on a new job but I sure would like to have some away vacations maybe by the end of August. In my MBA I only have vacations o August, so I can only go away that month. I’ve been searching for destinies and I found one that it seems good and it’s not the most expensive ones (there are no cheap ones in August).
Tunisia
Tunisia is "the gateway for those who want to know the Arab world a" safe, bathed by the Mediterranean, with strong Islamic traditions but living in harmony with Western culture.
Tunisia has in recent years to have "a great acceptance by Portuguese tourists, was larger than usual" that why it is consider as an affordable destination to go on by Portuguese people.
It provides a quite holiday on the beaches of the coastline from Gammarth, Hammamet, Port El Kantaoui, through Sousse, Monastir until Mahdia, the adventure of crossing the desert of the Sahara which has its port of entry in Douz, is known for its culture and experiences as one country with strong Islamic traditions.
Some other charms of Tunisia to visit are the familiar blue windows and doors on a white background, as well as the Sidi Bou, a city where Muslim relic of art is required to drink a mint tea with pine nuts, or travel in time and go to Carthage visit the thermal baths of Antoninus and its archaeological remains.
I think I would like going there one day.

I Signed up for SocialSpark!
I found out about SocialSpark in one of my blog searches and I´ve decided to sign up because I saw there an opportunity to meet new people, to present my blog and to make new friends. At the beginning I did not have much time to browse and see all the functionalities it has, and only after two weeks I requested for my blog verification for that reason I’ve been waiting for my blog to be approved on Social Sparks for about 2 weeks. It was approved this weekendJ. Now that I took a little time (not much) to browse there a bit more I realized it is much better than I first realized. It’s a great community where I can meet a lot of people, and make friends (I had already some friend requests), but most of all I can find a great deal of very nice blogs that share the same interest as me. Having more friends give me the opportunity to have a better rank page thus leading me to have more opportunities in paid reviews. I’m finding it amazing. Most opportunities in SocialSpark are taken really fast but the good news is that you can apply for one and wait in a queue for it to be available to you.
Further more I have to say that Social Sparks is:
-100% Audit-able In-Post Disclosure -100% Transparency -100% Real Opinions -100% Search Engine Friendly
Thank you Social Spark for having my blog approved!

Blog Update
It’s been three weeks since I’m having my school examination, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned before but It having an MBA, so I have to study hard and it’s not an easy job. Besides giving English classes to children I also lecture Spanish Classes to Portuguese Adults. And those three jobs have been keeping me very busy. My examinations ends by the end of June and I can’t wait for it to be gone because I feel really tired of studying. I don’t have proper weekends, also because my examination is at Saturdays, and I don’t have night time because I need to study. The thing that makes me sadder is that I’m living with angel for about two months now and I can’t find the time not to be with him more often neither to enjoy my first times as a couple living together.

Love in the Time of Cholera
A love story that lasts through times and tells us that we are never too old to love.
Florentino Ariza falls deply in love for Fermina Daza that is also very in love with him. Her father is against the romance and separates them. When she returns she realizes that it was only an illusion, not true love. He remains broken hearted and follow every step she gives in order to try to win her back. Even when she gets married he does not give up dreaming of a one day perfect ending with the love of his life.
Everyone should see this movie and think about the love lesson it give us.
Furthermore the soundtrack was really amazing… original songs by Shakira, playing together with those great landscapes… something one needs to see in order to feel…
Simply loved it!

Energy Drinks - more disadvantages then advantages
The CAFEÍNA present in high doses in energy drinks acts on the brain, stimulating it, inducing him the feeling of energy without limits and getting you rid of the sensation of tiredness body. Yet this false energy that the person feels, has no match practice in calories actually available in your body, and this imbalance can be proven as dangerous, especially in a high intensity sport. In addition to caffeine leads to increased blood pressure and is not recommended for people with heart problems and hypertension.
The TAURINE (Here comes the name red bull-taurine presents a reddish colour), is an amino acid naturally in some foods (and in small quantities), but that the energy drinks shows high values (a can of Red Bull has about as much taurine 500 cups of wine), which leads to the increase of the effects of other stimulants, also increasing the heart rate. The energy drinks have also sugar and some is also ephedrine. This substance combined with caffeine, may cause serious heart problems. Another substance sometimes this is the pyruvate that in high doses can cause gastrointestinal problems. Moreover, the mix of energy with alcohol - is very dangerous and can lead to death, inclusive. Manufacturers are massive campaigns to elude these consumers telling them the products are harmless. This year the one that holds the monopoly of the market, red bull has its own team of F1. Curious is that the red bull is based in Fuschl am See, Austria, which is located near Berchtesgaden, where Hitler had its general headquarters (Obersalzberg - the eagle nest).

How Colors Effect Our Emotions
How Colors Effect Our Emotions
by Janeth Duque
One of the most interesting things to me is how colors effect the way we think and feel. They effect us whether we are aware of it or not. Some colors effect us more then others but they all have their own individual properties that effect the way people feel.
All colors don't effect all people in the same ways, however, there have been extensive studies done that show how colors effect the majority of people in the same ways. As with all rules, there are exceptions, but to ignore the power of colors would be to ignore an essential element of a good website design.
Another extremely important element to colors is not only the properties or emotions each color conjures up in each of us, but also how combinations of colors make people feel. And to further complicate your perfect color selection you also have to be concerned with the fact that people have to be able to read your content or the most beautiful color in the world will be for nothing. No matter how important the content on your site may be to someone, if they can't read it due to bad color selection they will leave in search of another site to serve their needs.
Here are only a few colors and what emotions have been shown to be raised with each.
* Green jealousy, good luck, and harmony* Blue calming, peaceful and builds trust* Red color of action, anger, Love, impulse and impatient* Purple nobility, spirituality and creativity, passion* White pure color, innocent and clean* Black serious, mysterious, mournful and lifeless* Yellow happy, cheerful and joy * Orange positive, enthusiastic and warmth
People believe you can even see colors in music, one thing is for sure though, colors cause a physical and emotional reaction in each of us. Colors can cause headaches, sickness, relaxation, pleasure, tension, passion, peacefulness or irritation.
There are literally hundreds of sites dedicated to the research and insight into colors and the reactions they cause in the people viewing them. We'd suggest that you do as much research into this area of your website as you can stand as in the long run it will pay off in sales or return visits to your site.

City Branding... Is it Tourism?
In a global village, cities and territories tend to be increasingly undifferentiated among themselves, whether in economic, social or cultural issues. So what can distinguish of each one? That work can and should be done to attract investment, residents, tourists? Cities must be perceived and worked as if a brand was involved. But not depend only upon a symbol, a logo or a picture. They have to represent much more. A city is a unique product in conjunction with a variety of services and offers, given the history and unique characteristics that make it unparalleled. Conquering a reputation that should be based on positive concepts, attractiveness, uniqueness, sustainability and relevance to different types of audiences. It is betting on the differentiation of such distinctive elements that a city can win the challenges of competitiveness and reputation. Ultimately, the decision to do business, live or simply visit a city, depends largely on the image that is built around it
